Modifying a work of art is a treacherous path, often treading the line between not being original or absolutely bastardizing it and making it worse off than it started. The 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S was that work of art, with 640 horsepower and looks that could kill the devil if it looked in the eye. A 3.8 L flat-six mated to Porsche’s PDK… for most people, that would justify the $400,000+ initial price tag. Manhart didn’t think so.
Upping power to 750 horses for a stock car that already ran the 0-60 in 2.6 seconds is crazy. Giving it nearly the same figure in torque is crazier. The 992 Turbo S is Porsche’s hallmark vehicle. The top of the line, as good as it gets. If that didn’t tickle your fancy, hallowed German aftermarket tuner Manhart wanted to give you something surely you’ll remember. Manhart built its street cred doing the usual type of stuff. In their portfolio sits a McLaren 720 S kit, an AMG GTR kit (as if the $400,000 sticker there wasn’t enough), and even a Continental GT SuperSport. These aren’t your run of the mill “toss me $50 and a beer and I’ll get this exhaust put on you” type of guys. This is the Brabus and Alpina competition type of guys.
To play the part, Manhart slapped on an a stainless steel exhaust from Kline Innovations along with lowering the car on H&R springs dropping the Deutschland product 30 mm. New TechArt wheels along with gold rims make the TR 750 (the Manhart kit name) look like it’s everything Porsche couldn’t do. 205 mph seems like it’s perfection as is, but Manhart promises to keep taking it one step further. Manhart’s iconic gold decals tattoo the body panels of the TR 750 letting all the passersby know exactly what they’re looking at.
It’s important to note that Manhart builds this as a simple bolt-on kit, meaning that all the items listed could simply be slapped on by any average Joe who has a wrench and the brain of a monkey. That’s what’s so impressive. Manhart managed to yank 110 extra ponies out of basic parts which I thought was the epitome of turning a piece of art… into a masterpiece.
We can only imagine that this new Frankenstein Turbo S shoots down a drag strip faster than any Turbo S we’ve ever seen before. However, as The Drive points out, this kit isn’t exactly the powerplant that puts down the most numbers. There are kits that can boost power to 850 horsepower, but the Manhart one is one that comes from a heavily reputable source that knows what they’re doing.
