The Charge Mustang is the UK’s Interpretation of Muscle

When the Goodwood Festival of Speed wrapped up, we got looks at tons of brand-new cars. The Grecale, the AMG ONE, the M3 Touring… yet there was one that caught our eye more than any other. Making the hill run was a retro Mustang draped in black, but we couldn’t hear any of the traditional rumbles and sound effects from the ’67 Fastback lookalike. It was silent, a total oxymoron of the car world.

Charge Cars, a London based startup creates the restomod. Built on the aforementioned 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback platform, the fully electric pony puts out 400 kW of power or just a hair over 536 horsepower. That’s more power than a current generation Mustang GT. Putting out impressive specs relative to the original fastback Mustang and most modern EVs— the Charge Mustang will have a 200 mile range based on a 63 kWh battery pack. The Mustang will silently fly to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds which challenges even the top performance EVs at their own game. The RWD platform from the original Mustang is replaced by a dual motor AWD setup, allowing the Charge Mustang to achieve its impressive numbers and to launch itself to a top speed of 147 MPH.

Built with an all-composite body and bespoke pieces all around, each vehicle will be one off with individual specifications to each buyer. Charge will reportedly produce 499 of these Mustangs, a super limited run for a very special vehicle. The interior consists of a more modern take with inspirations drawn from the original fastback design. With the steering wheel and lack of a center console paying subtle homages to the original V8 powered beast that came before it. The old school radio is replaced by a huge vertical center screen, of which reminds us of another electric Mustang, the Mach-E’s massive vertical screen.

While the car itself is silent, your wallet certainly won’t be. The asking price from Charge for one of these will set you back $380,000 plus tax. The Mustang first premiered at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2022 just a couple days ago built by a team injected with the top minds of the automotive world. Brains from McLaren, F1, and Jaguar all came together in order to give an American classic an English twist and reimagining what the EV world can be.
